From March 12th to 14th, a 15-member delegation from the University of Alberta, Canada led by Dean Dennis Kunimoto of its Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry visited Wenzhou Medical University (WMU). During the visit, a number of agreements on all-round and in-depth cooperation were signed to actively promote a strategic partnership between the two universities.
On March 13th, talks on cooperation were held in the conference room on the fourth floor of Tongxin Building on Chashan Campus, WMU. President Li Xiaokun, WMU and Wang Zhenbin, Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Division of Zhejiang Education Department attended the meeting. The two sides reached consensus on the establishment of the Wenzhou Medical University-University of Alberta International Medical Education Centre, the China-Canada Mental Health Education and Research Cooperation Centre, and issues related to teacher training and student exchanges. In addition, potentials for the cooperation between the two universities in the training of students in the fields of clinical medicine, psychiatry and stomatology were explored and discussed.
Subsequently, the two sides signed five memorandums of cooperation and agreements. As agreed, the two sides will utilize their respective advantages in terms of discipline and location to achieve win-win cooperation in medical education, clinical research and construction of featured disciplines.
During the visit, the two sides jointly held the ceremony for the establishment of the WMU-U of A Joint institute of Psychiatry and the launching ceremony of the Academician Workstation at the Affiliated Kangning Hospital. Moreover, the two sides jointly held the Sino-Canada Symposium on Mental Health and the Sino-Canada Symposium on Medical Education, focusing on themes including “training of medical students”, “standardized training of residents”, “basic research and clinical transformation of psychiatry”, “digital psychiatry” and “cultivation of psychiatric talents” to explore the development of medical education and seek for a common ground on how to promote medical education and deepen cooperation in terms of cutting-edge technology between both countries.
In addition, the delegation also visited the First Affiliated Hospital, the Affiliated Eye Hospital, the Affiliated Stomatological Hospital and Kangning Hospital for academic exchanges in relevant fields.
