  • University of Alberta School of Medicine and Dentistry, Canada visited School of Dentistry and Affiliated Dental Hospital

  • During March 14th and 15th , Prof. Paul William Major, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry and Prof. Lawrence Le of the Department of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging of the University of Alberta visited our university and was invited to participate in the Sino-Canadian Medical Cooperation Forum jointly held by our university and the University of Alberta, and to attend bilateral talks, academic lectures, as well as other related activities of the Faculty of Dentistry and the Affiliated Dental Hospital.


    During the visit, the two sides conducted talks in terms of cooperation, exchanged views on their respective development histories, training mechanisms and scientific research directions, discussed the development of cooperation and exchange in medical international education, joint training, student exchange programs, scientific research cooperation and the application of new clinical technologies, reaching a preliminary consensus on faculty retraining and scientific research cooperation.


    Prof. Paul William Major and Prof. Lawrence Le also gave a lecture on "Fusion of MRI and CBCT: A new approach to diagnostic imaging of the TMJ" "Oral ultrasound diagnosis" for the orthodontic department and scientific researchers of the hospital, and had an in-depth discussion on dental clinical research. They also had an in-depth discussion on the new technology and other aspects.


    In addition, the University of Alberta delegation also visited the Xueyuan Road District, Plaza Road District, Yaoxi New Hospital, Stomatological Research Institute, Teaching Laboratory, School History Museum, Body Science Museum, etc.






    Founded in 1908, the University of Alberta is located in Edmonton, the capital city of Alberta, Canada, and the school is ranked among the top five universities in Canada and one of the top 100 universities in the world. It is ranked 90th in the 2018 QS World University Rankings, with the school ranked 79th in the world in clinical medicine and in the top 50 in the world in pharmacy and pharmacology.



    The Alberta Institute, Wenzhou Medical University went to the China Scholarship Council to promote cooperation between the two universities


    On the morning of May 17, Vice President Cao Jianming accompanied Associate Vice President Huang Cen, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry Dennis Kunimoto and Dean of the Department of Psychiatry Li Xinmin of the University of Alberta, Canada, to visit the China Scholarship Council (CSC). Zhang Ning, deputy secretary-general of the China Scholarship Council, and Meng Li, deputy director of the USU Department, attended the meeting, accompanied by the heads of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office and the School of Psychiatry of the University.


    During the meeting, Wenzhou Medical University and the University of Alberta elaborated on their cooperation and ideas and proposals for cooperation in the field of psychiatry.



    Cao introduced the development history of WMU, the characteristics of psychiatry disciplines and Plans for further cooperation with the University of Alberta. He said that internationalization has always been one of the important strategies for the development of WMSU, and that WMSU attaches great importance to the cooperation with the University of Alberta, hoping to promote the medical technology and discipline level of psychiatry and cultivate leading psychiatry talents through cooperation with international top universities.

    Kunimoto introduced the current development of the University of Alberta, School of Medicine and Dentistry, and pointed out that it has already cooperated with China in clinical observation of medical students, clinical skills training of young doctors, clinical teacher training, joint training of master and doctoral students and general practitioner training, etc., with the robust support from the China Scholarship Council. Wenzhou Medical University is an important partner of the University of Alberta School of Medicine and Dentistry and is confident in the cooperation with WMSU. Concurrently, he hoped that there would be more cooperation with the Foundation in the future in the training of Chinese and Canadian talents.

    Li Xinmin compared the similarities and differences between Chinese and Canadian psychiatry personnel training models and claimed that China needs to strengthen the training of high-end personnel in psychiatry, clinical thinking, treatment techniques and scientific research training, and hoped to cooperate with WCMU in the future in the areas of doctoral and post-doctoral training, teaching and research and medical innovation in the field of psychiatry.

    Zhang Ning put forward several constructive opinions during the meeting, he expressed his hope that the two universities can join forces for mutual benefit and win-win, strengthen cooperation in the cultivation of leading members of the psychiatric profession, come up with practical plans to achieve psychiatry talent training, scientific research breakthroughs and discipline enhancement.


    Subsequently, the University of Alberta and the Scholarship Council signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation to jointly fund outstanding Chinese talents to pursue PhD and participate in post-doctoral research at the University of Alberta.
